In Dr. Klaus Draeger’s speech today, there was a reference to a new sports car concept which will be unveiled at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. Media publications capitalized on that and started a new set of rumors. First, AutoTelegraaf.nl and Motor Authority posted something along the following line:
Dr. Klaus Draeger, member of BMW’s board of management has told AutoTelegraaf, the dutch auto news site, that BMW has plans to debut a sustainable sports concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009. According to Dr. Draeger, the sports car concept will feature “sustainable design and material elements.”
Building on top of this, other publications and fans have already started to speculate that we might be looking at a a competitor for the Audi R8 and even the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Gullwing.
But, we’re here to burst that bubble, even though we regret doing it….we only wished these rumors were true and indeed an M1 Hommage type of car will be launched.
The concept car in question is actually the BMW Z Vision Concept, a subject that has been widely discussed by us here and here. What we don’t know for sure yet is this: will the concept act as a base for the Z2 Roadster or will it carry the Z9/Z10 marketing name?
The details are sketchy around these models, but we’re researching this subject as we speak and hopefully we have something more solid to close this loop.
Will it be a an Audi R8 or SLS AMG competitor? Probably not, it will simply have its own market and fully take advantage of the EfficientDynamics technology.

Oh God it’s hideous
what a bullshit , another -smart- move bmw!……bmw will Never Ever make such a class car like SLR or SLS or even R8……a true super car from bmw could be expected at the end of october 2091….
this is just one of the main reasons I dont follow bmw anymore , I turned to audi and Benz , they make stronger faster and better cars , bmw is so 90s today
‘viper’, no design, concept car or prototype BMW ever brings out brings out any positive comment from you. are you like out to help the competition or something?
no Im simply here to talk trash when necesarry like in this case I am hugely disappointed in bmw because they dont have the balls to build a real supercar , even VW can do it , they dont follow the leader which is a huge mistake in my opinion , need more ?

i was waiting for so long that the BMW makes a strong and powerful super car that crashes the SLR or a FERRARI ENZO , but I think that’s a dream .i hope it will come true this year
