How sure is everybody that this announcement effects ALL cares and not just the FLEET AVERAGE? BMW already has an incredible fleet average, over half of their cars get >25mpg. I must be the first to say though, if this means the end to large displacement engines with 8+ cylinders, I will be mad.. and sad.

We've already seen a lot of hurt in the auto industry *cough*GM*cough* but I never thought I'd see the Viper go. Now Chrysler has no sports car... unless you want to consider the Challenger a sports car. What could've been a great source of revenue for GM was the G8 GXP, and possibly a new Firebird if Lutz knew what he was doing. Eh, oh well, I'm gonna go back to being insensible and pretending that all fun cars are now dead.

What I would like to know, is how far off is BMW from these 2012 figures? I do know that their combined range of cars are the most efficient cars in the world -by quite a margin.

Does this mean they will rest on their laurels... not likely.
