With four days left before the official unveiling of the first BMW Sport Activity models built under the M brand, BMW X5 M and X6 M, new spy photos made their way onto the web. Our friends at Autoblog received spy photos of the BMW X5 M, spotted near the BMW Plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Other than sporting an Alpine White exterior color, the test car in these photos is absolutely identical to what we have seen so far. The large air-intakes up front are still covered with a light camouflage, same goes for the rear bumper.
Even though we learned in the past that the headlights on the X5 M will be imported from the X6, from the angle the photos were taken, I can’t tell 100% if that’s the case, so I’ll refrain from making any false assumptions.
What’s intriguing and interesting about the BMW X5 M is the fact that even though BMW has confirmed last week the X6 M presence at the NYC auto show, the X5 M unveiling secret is kept locked down somewhere in the New Jersey Headquarter. With both models going to be revealed by the end of this week, I see no reason why the X5 M will not be in NYC as well, but in the end, it makes for a more interesting auto show when some things are being kept secret.
We don’t expect any other test cars to be spotted this week, so stay tuned for the official photos, as usual, you will find them here.

Definately X5M as X6 headlamps.
This though, I think, is the first time we’ve seen the side vents un-covered.
This is just a simple correction but obviously the blog writer is completely blind. That car is not Alpine White. Its silver.
This is one poorly written post. You copy your thoughts straight from autoblog. Oh yea, you don’t have permission to use these photos.
@Alex, did you ever think about a monitor being calibrated differently? Based on that, the not-so-obvious silver in this case, looks pretty white on mine, but that’s beside the point.
As far as copying out thoughts from them, WRONG again. We posted so much information and breaking news about the X5M and X6 M that I don’t even know where to start. We were the ones that posted first the BMW Microsite and hinted a NYC launch, we were the ones that spoke the first time about an M X model, etc…
Permission to use the photos? Ha…for some reason I still believe that I know the Autoblog guys quite well and they post photos from us, the same as we do from them. We established a good working relationship a while back and we stand by it.
Plus, we only used one photo and linked back to them, which is fair and what all the blogs do.
Now let’s move on onto more serious things, you’re obviously not here to read about the BMW brand, but rather look for a way to put us down.
P.S Next time, we have some breaking news, I’ll send them straight to your email.
Sorry for the interruption everyone.
@Horatiu: there’s no use reasoning with him. he’s just a jealous chinese guy and is trying to deny the fact that many automakers in his country are copying other’s ideas by slandering us.
Y’all a trip.
When is the NY auto show? I wanna see this M SUV.. sorry.. SAV
Probably this alex guy is owner of that geely made bmw,and now he`s angry cause we maked fun of his vechile….hehe…
The blog is great with a lot of understanding and tolarance by his maker…
just keep a good work…
Comment about post: theres no big difference in front between regular x5 and x6,and the m versions will change only the front and back bumpers…i hope in future of x models there ll be more changes…
does anybody know is there ideas for smaller x6 coupe like x2(from x1 base model…) that one would be the killer(strictly with 4 doors!)
I’m guessing the X5M will be revealed at the Shanghai Motor Show (April 20th) to give the Chinese something special (and detract from the Panamera launch). I would expect both X5M and X6M to be at Shanghai, but only the X5 at New York
