We have all been waiting for this moment, the first drive of the new 2009 BMW Z4. We have seen many reviews, including ours, but all of them were purely based on design and features offered.
A couple of months back, when I spoke with Julia Blasi, BMW Z4 Exterior Designer, she was also waiting her turn to drive the car and seemed excited to finally enjoy her “masterpiece”.
If you’re interested in our initial reviews, you can catch them here: E89 BMW Z4 Review and The New Landshark Has Landed.
Going back to the original topic, the first test drive of the new Z4, with the help of Google Translate and the little German I know, I managed to extract a few things.
Auto Zeitung talks about the significantly increased space and better material appearance, similar to what we have noticed when we thoroughly inspected the car in Detroit. Being a 6′2 (185cm) fella, I found the new Z4 to be very comfortable inside, plenty of space, horizontally and vertically.
They go further by talking about the typical BMW driving dynamic,s but also positively highlighted that the new Z4 has a significantly more comfortable ride than the previous models. Good news for those of you who believed the old Z4 was too rough.
You can read their full article here, the German version and the Google Translate attempt in English.
Update: Their article is not listed on the site at the moment, we’re trying to find an alternative link.

So far it sounds promising. Can’t wait for more drives to surface on the internet…
” Z4 has a significantly more comfortable ride than the previous models. ”
- Good. A performance-based sports car isn’t a racing car after all. It’s still a car meant to be driven in ordinary roads.
