Update: For some odd reason, BMW is still testing the F01 7 Series, so YES, this is the shortwheel base 7.
We have just received some exclusive photos with the 2011 BMW 5 Series. The 5er test mule was spotted in Malibu, California, along the Pacific Coast Highway, a sign that BMW is moving forward in the the process, not only in Europe, but in the US as well.
Unfortunately, the quality of the photos it’s not the best, but….for the first time, we get to see the fully uncovered interior of the new 2011 BMW 5 Series (F10). Our reader, who wishes to remain anonymous, told us that the interior looks almost identical to the new 7 Series, including the wood paneling on the sides.
As far as the exterior design, he shared with us that the new 5er looks wider, but somewhat shorter than the current E60 5 Series. As a true BMW fan and spy photographer, he was able to pull a piece of the camouflage covering the trunk and he observed some similarities between these new headlights and the ones from the 7 Series. We already learned in the past that the headlights design resembles the new 7, but not identical and far smaller.
Now, pay attention to this photo below, I couldn’t tell from the beginning what was different between this test mule and the ones we have previously seen, but after examining the photos closer, I noticed the square exhaust pipes, very similar to the 7 Series and….a clear indication that this test car could be either the high-end 550i model or even the M5.
What do you think? Could we have here the next generation BMW M5?
For a change, it’s nice to see some different spy shots and in the next months, there will be many more spied photos to go around. Most likely in the fall, we will see the first FEP (Final Evaluation Phase) models where we the fake body plastics will come off and replaced by the funky white and black camouflage.
Thanks again for the photos!
