Myself and Benny have been looking at this spy photo for hours and we cannot figure out yet which test mule we have here.
In the past, we have seen another 3 Series Wagon featuring the X1 front-end, and we are inclined to believe that we’re looking at the same test mule.
Since the design for the new 3 Series has not been chosen yet – very soon though from what we heard- the chances of having an E9x series vehicle running with the front-end of the next generation 3 Series, are slim to none. Playing devil’s advocate here, we did see recently the 3 Series Sedan testing the platform for the next generation….
Now, we also know that the 2010 BMW X3 is based on the 3 Series platform, so this could a possibility as well, along with the rumored confirmed BMW 3 Series GT which will be unveiled later this year or early 2010.
But for now, we can only speculate, we sent in the photo for an “official” analysis, we will update the topic as soon as we hear back.
Thanks to pousa13 for the photo!

why is this test mule sitting a little bit on the high side? its still not X1 or X3 high ? and not 3er series low. Maybe its the 3er GT? and why would they only test the front end? cooling and engine testing maybe?
My guess too… 3er GT.
@Mohammed AlMomen:
agreed is to low for being an X model probably the 3 GT
Maybe in this particular location they didn’t have an X1 test mule but instead a 3 series wagon with X1 bits ?
