As we announced back in November, BMW has extended the MINI E pilot in Berlin as well. California and New Jersey are the first and only U.S. States that will host the MINI E program. 450 customers will be selected to take place in this test drive trial with a one year lease of $850 a month. Despite the high lease payment, BMW and Mini are reporting that the number of applications received is about four times the number of Mini E available.
In Berlin,Vattenfall and BMW are about to launch a field test that will see 50 electric Mini cars on the streets and public access to recharging points.
The Berlin MINI E joint project is being sponsored by Sigmar Gabriel, Federal Minister for the Environment, Norbert Reithofer, BMW’s CEO and Tuomo Hatakka, Vattenfall’s CEO.
With a little video editing, we managed to put together a clip of the MINI E being driven in Berlin, in winter conditions, totally different from our test drive in L.A. At that time, I was a bit worried about the handling of a MINI electric in snow, but it seems to be running just fine.
