BMW plants are going green, according to Greenvilleonline, BMW is looking into using wind energy at the Spartanburg plant. The partner chosen for this task is a company called Gold Ring Power.
The initial step will be an energy audit that will reveal whether wind power would make sense for BMW.
“Globally, wind power is growing at a rate of about 30 percent annually,” said Duncan Seaman, BMW facilities manager.
Two 50-foot towers have been installed at the plant site. Each will have anemometers, devices to measure wind speed and direction. One tower is in front of the BMW Zentrum, visible from I-85. They will remain in place for two weeks and then will be moved to other locations throughout the site of nearly 1,100 acres.
