It has been a few weeks since spy photographers caught the 2011 BMW 5 Series out in the open. Of course, we had plenty of 5er news lately, including the allegedly leaked photo of the next BMW 5 Series.
We’re still not 100% sure that the production model will be identical, but at least it gives us a better idea of what to expect.
As we have see or learned so far, the 2011 BMW 5 Series will share many design elements and parts with the BMW 5 Series GT and the F01 BMW 7 Series. The headlights will be a combination of the 5er GT and the CS Concept, the hood has two side aggressive creases and two central ones which end before reaching the hood front cut line, forming a small V shape, and this is where the BMW roundel is sitting. Think of the BMW Z4 and you will get the full image.
Lots of whistles and bells will be coming from the newly launched BMW 7 Series., such as Dynamic Drive active anti-roll bars, four-wheel steering, Dynamic Damping Control, Night Vision System or lane departure warning.
Start-stop automatic transmission will be used for the six cylinder engine, in order to increase fuel efficiency. There will be a wide range of engine offerings, from the European 204hp 2.0L twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine to more powerful ones like the twin-turbo V8 4.4 liter engine.
The EfficientDynamics technology will play an important role in the 2011 BMW 5 Series, starting with the start-stop automatic transmission in order to increase fuel efficiency.
We expect the 5 Series test mules to lose their fake plastic body panels soon and we should have a better idea of what to expect in terms of size, shape and design.
