Auto Motor und Sport is reporting that the BMW Z2 is still on schedule for an early reveal this year. If initially we believed that Tokyo Auto Show will have the honor to host the world premiere, we just learned that the car will be unveiled at the International Auto Show in Frankfurt.
BMW’s big push for a Compact Roadster and the utilization of Efficient Dynamics technology, will make the Z2 Roadster to be the first hybrid BMW Roadster in production. The Z2 will carry the eDrive badge, similar to the existing sDrive in the Z4 and xDrive in the SAV model.
BMW Z2 is built on the 1 Series platform and in contrast to the new Z4, it will use a soft top, with the precise scope of reducing weight. As we mentioned, the Z2 will be the first Hybrid Roadster, but BMW will not ignore their horsepower craving fans. Four-cylinder engines will make their way into the line-up, ranging from 1.8 to 2.o liter.
The BMW Z2 will take on the popular Mazda MX-5 and at a rumored price of $30,000, it will be interesting to see the consumers’ reaction.

Interesting..I wonder how that Hybrid version will appeal to the bimmer fans
Nice looking – better than the Z4. Unfortunately, like the Porsche Boxster and Ferrari California, the final product will never end up looking as good as early renderings. BMW should hire Mark Stehrenberger to design their cars.
I hope they will do a Coupe as well. I find the current Z4 Coupe too big so I bought a 1-series but find myself falling out of love with the design.

I thougt exactly the same.
However this rendering is even more beautiful http://automezzo.biz/files/bmw-z2.jpg
Sorry but this is not better than the Z4, in fact I think it is worse than the Z4 by far. What are those lines of LEDs doing on a BMW??? BMW will only have corona rings as day time running lights
@Lance:
Its supposed to be different from the Z4
But i find a lot of potential for this car, i mean i told my dad about the GT and he liked it, but for me is a cool car but im 20 years old so i dont wanna drive that, i want a cheaper sportier car and i think the z2 could do a very good job, ill actually prefer the z4 but in Mexico it could be a lot more expensive soo ill hae to wait
They should lower the price to 24K and perhaps it would sell.
Lets see how far they can stretch their “lightweight” maketing this time around
