BMW has made the cut again, the new BMW 7 Series has been nominated for the 2009 World Car of the Year Award.
In a selective crowd, the new 7 Series seems to have impressed the jury so far.
The new 2009 7 Series will go head-to-head with the Audi A4, Fiat 500, Jaguar XF, Mazda 6, Nissan GT-R, Toyota iQ, VW Golf VI, Ford Fiesta and Honda Fit.
Some of the cars nominated with the mention that Nissan GT-R competes in both finals:
Nominations for the 2009 World Performance Car include the Audi RS 6 Avant, BMW 135i, Corvette ZR1, Lamborghini LP560-4 Gallardo, Mercedes-Benz’s C63 AMG and SL 63 AMG, Mitsubishi Evo X / Evo MR, Nissan GT-R, Porsche 911 Carrera and Subaru Impreza WRX STI.
The 2006 World Car was the BMW 3-Series while the Lexus LS460 took the honor of being the 2007 World Car of the Year.
Last year’s 2008 World Car of the Year was the Mazda2/Mazda Demio.

Final round of voting on finalists to determine winners for:
a. World Car of the Year
b. World Green Car
c. World Performance Car
d. World Design of the Year
March 9, 2009: Top Three finalists in all categories announced.
April 9, 2009 : All World Car award winners announced at the New York International Auto Show.
This year’s jury includes 59 members of the automotive press who were selected by secret ballot and represent Asia, Europe, North America, and South America.

I can’t wait for the hype over the GT-R to die down…
The 7er, X6 and Phantom Coupe are in the list for the design award.
The 335d is in the green award list.
Agree with most of the nominations except for the Fiat 500 that i dont see it as a nice car and the Audi A4 i personally don“t like it at all, i think is ugly as hell, but many people seem to like but cmon car of the year???? i think the A5 would be better contender.
The GT-R should be the winner here.
I think one of the small cars will win. It’s all about fuel efficiency these days.
