Update: It seems like we were wrong, the car in this image is the current 3 series with an X1 front-end. We’re not sure why, but it definitely fooled us.
Thanks to rot member of Bimmerpost, today we have the best and newest spy photo of the upcoming BMW PAS, short for Progressive Activity Sedan, or the 5 Series GT, as BMW might ended up calling the new vehicle.
The new photo shows the 5er GT being in the pre-final evaluation phase where the plastic body parts covering the car are being replaced by the funky camo pattern.
As you can see in the photo, the front-grille is quite large when compared to other BMW models, in line with what we learned in the past that the Progressive Activity Sedan will take some design cues from the recently revealed BMW 7 Series and it will be marketed as a model between the 2010 BMW 5 Series and the 7 Series.
The PAS/5-series GT is slightly longer than a 5-series sedan and just shorter than a 7-series. We also know that it will be longer than the X6, measuring around 192.91 inch.
The new vehicle will make its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show and going on sale, early next year, before the new 2010 BMW 5 Series is unveiled.

The more we know about it… in terms of carving out a niche for itself and where it slots into the lineup, the more sense it makes.
I won’t be surprised to see a Huckfeldt (if he hasn’t done one already) photoshop of what it may look like armed with the new photo and info.
@Brookside: I think so too. I do believe it will do great and being targeted as a family car, it will make it more appealing.
I have a feeling it will be pretty controversial for a while, but people will adopt it eventually
Too bad the rear isn’t visible. I guess that’s where the real difference with the 5-series will be found.
I do hope it looks a little like this right here

That’s a gorgeous photoshop…X6-ish instead of the awkward ugly duckling I expected to see. If the PAS comes out looking like this it’ll be a miracle.
Let’s not write this pic off too fast…
The PAS in the foreground might be a test mule of something completely different, but the extra slits and bonnet bulges on the black X6 parked behind this vehicle would APPEAR to the X6 active hybrid in black with no camo?
.. I could be wrong, but look carefully…
Any good interior pics ?
I Think this car is X1 because this car is very like X1 http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/01/19/bmw-x1-testing-in-snow/
Now that you mention it, the car does look small in comparison to the X6 in the background-
