BMW names a new CFO: Friedrich Eichner

Munich. Dr. Friedrich Eichiner (53) will assume responsibility for the Finance Division with immediate effect. Dr. Michael Ganal (54) occupied this position from October 2007 and will remain a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG. Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, informed the Supervisory Board of the reassignment of responsibilities within the Board of Management at its meeting today. The Supervisory Board found the Board of Management’s new realms of responsibility to be appropriate.

  • Norbert Reithofer to head Corporate and Brand Development
  • Michael Ganal remains member of the Board of Management

Dr. Eichiner has been leading the Corporate and Brand Development Division since October 2007 and has also been managing the Finance Division temporarily for several months while Dr. Ganal has been absent due to illness.

Business areas which were previously part of the Corporate and Brand Development Division have been assigned to other Board members: Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, is now in charge of Corporate and Product Strategy and project i; Financial Services will be managed by Dr. Eichiner within the Finance Division; and BMW Motorrad will be transferred to the Research and Development Division headed by Dr. Klaus Draeger.

You almost need an insider to explain the movement of these personnel within the corporation.
The only conclusion I can come up with is that BMW seems very happy with Mr. Reithofer at the helm and has widened his influence over corporate planning.
Right now, I sure wouldn’t want his job.
