Rendering: BMW V3 – Progressive Activity Coupe

At the LA Auto Show, BMW’s CEO Norbert Reithofer confirmed the launch in 2012 of a crossover model based on the 3 Series, named V3. The crossover, internally known as the Progressive Activiy Coupe, will appeal as a medium volume car for a lot of BMW’s customer looking for a similar concept as the PAS due to launch in 2009. 

The BMW V3 will be competing with the upcoming 2010 Audi A5 Sportback, a five-door configuration concept much sleeker than traditional Audi Avant wagons.

The EfficientDynamics technology is expected to be part of the Progressive Activity Coupe, so we should expect a hybrid version as well.

The fellows at Autobild made their own interpretation of the V3, which according to sources close to BMW, it’s not so far off from the actual design. We will be seeing more renderings in the near future, but what we know for sure so far is that BMW will continue to build cars on their 1 and 3 series platforms, focusing and smaller, more compact and efficient vehicles.

So, what do you think of this design? I definitely like it more than the BMW 1 Series Hatchback, a car that many people in the US asked for.

    I have to say I like it. Looks compact, aggressive, sporty. Seems smaller that a 3 series though – by a lot. Could this really be on a 3 series platform?

    Disregarding the assumptions about what the next 3 will look like…(SUV-proportions) … it’s basically a 3-series with a hatchback (x6/z4-style). And possibly AWD.

    I’d dig a 3-coupe with a hatchback, if they can get it to handle like the real thing.

    Another car with a too-high beltline. A bit higher and it would take a periscope to see out of the vehicle.
