Oh yeah—the Rolling Stones logo that Warhol did…yeah, got it.
Again…the familiar…I think he did it for them in the early 1970′s.

The Brett Easton Ellis/ American Psycho thing is definitely in there-
but why?

I don’t see much of Warhol in here…if there’s anything at all attributable to the be-wigged one.
Instead we have some re-heated Greenbergian modernism: Jackson Pollock’s splatter/drip paintings from the late 1940′s (anybody doing the math…60 years ago!) and the liquidy evanescence of Morris Louis’ poured paintings. The point I make is that to summon the visually new advertising continues to hop into the time machine and go back to modernism’s heyday more than a half century ago.
Even summoning up the whiteness…the minimal white cube of the Bauhaus… takes the advertisement’s contextualization of “new” even further back in time.

Maybe they are hinting at a return of classicism but my money’s on a team of people putting together something they have few clues about.

If it points to anything it’s that the distanced critique of post-modernism hasn’t really made any inroads in the minds of the working creative class and that what is disguised as the new, the hip, the inside, is the historically familiar when it comes to quoting art.
