BMW’s CEO Norbert Reithofer confirmed at the L.A Auto Show that BMW will continue their crossover plans with a model based on the next generation BMW 3 Series due in 2012. The Progressive Activity Sedan due to be released in 2010 fits the crossover profile and it’s the beginning of a new market for BMW.
There have been rumors of a 3 Series crossover since early in the year, accompanied by many artists renderings at the one above. According to Reithofer, the 3er crossover, codenamed V3, will appeal as a medium volume car for a lot of BMW’s customer looking for a similar concept as the PAS.
No other information have been released at this time, but we’re certain that more information will be revealed after the Progressive Activity Sedan unveiling.

Am I the only one who thinks thats bullshit?
They cancel the concept CS, and develop another freak of car?
I admit that there may be/is a market for X1, X6, I can also imagine to see 5series-PAS on the streets, but thats far too much.
Perhaps they plan on [sedan, coupe, convertible, wagon, PAS, SUV] for each basic plastform [1, 3, 5, 7, Z], plus M editions.
Oh… and the motorcycles. PAS motorbike, anyone?

Uxel, I think most people will agree with you- tho they may not agree with me…I think it’s good idea. If I understand PAS as it’s starting to evolve, seems like we’re getting a design that takes in station wagon and hatchback.
I like it because it gives the consumer more choices and this seems to be a sportier interpretation of the family hauler.

I’m with you on this Brookside. I have a Renault Laguna, and the space available is mind blowing! If I could have this in a BMW with out it being a station wagon -I’m sold!

That “V3″ thing is ugly as hell. I wouldn’t drive it if I were stuck in the desert and that was my only hope of escape.

The way this render looks, it is nothing more than a 3 series wagon, so yes, it begs the question whether this is something completely new or just a rebranding of the wagon bodystyle. With this news, I’m actually more curious to see the 5er PAS, and compare its dimensions with an ‘08 5er wagon. I’m betting they will be pretty darn close.
By the way – I LOVE the render of this car. If BMW could put a similar front end on the new 3er, I’d be pretty pleased.
And just to pile on a bit – I dropped my 3er coupe at the shop this morning and was given an ‘09 X5 xdrive30i (or whatever the hell its called) as a loaner. My GOODNESS does that car suck monkeys. Congratulations on focusing on trucks, BMW.

I can understand the distaste for the newer BMW wagons. As long as it’s not just a model-wide hatred for them of all generations, it’s okay.

No, don’t misunderstand. I’m a HUGE fan of the wagons. In fact, had the new 3er Touring been out when I needed to trade my old 330i sedan in, I would have probably gotten it instead of the 328 coupe. Just couldn’t stomach the eyelids on the grilles on the pre-LCI 3er sedan/touring.
