Sorry guys, the new BMW Z4 wasn’t present at the L.A Auto Show, despite the previous confirmations of the new roadster presence there. Apparently, there was an issue with the sDrive trademark name and due to late legal issues, BMW decided to hold off the November launch.
I know most of you are disappointed as I am as well, but honestly, not many of the auto journalists here were crying over it. I think this is mostly a bimmer fan thing, but I did look into it and asked a few extra questions.
I heard from two BMW executives that Detroit is on the map, but they did not want to confirm it 100% yet. All I can say that I am pretty damn confident we will see it there. So hold tight guys, I will look into this some more tomorrow.

I’m slightly disappointed- Detroit seems a long way off.
I guess this means more “leaked” zebra striped camo shots to hold out interest? Auggghhhh!!!!
I’d say we’ll see the unmasked shots within a few weeks. Just like we saw the 7er before the show
BIG mistake. So Cal is probably the biggest market for this car. Detroit? Who buys a roadster in the middle of the winter there?
Marketing geniuses at BMW at it once again.
its not the marketing department at fault, its the legal department and their trademarks
@Dan: We shall see…I’m hoping that they won’t see Geneva as a better place. From what I heard, the Detroit show won’t be too great this year….for everyone
@roffle waffle: Oh trust me, you CAN blame it on the Marketing department. Who’s stupid idea was it to move away from the Z series naming and go with sDrive35? That is the dumbest idea to ever have come out of BMW’s marketing department since the X6 and the xDrive35 and xDrive50 stupidity.
