The fellows at Autobild have put together a rendering of the next generation BMW 5 Series, codenamed F11, which is due in 2010. This time, they focused on the Touring version of the popular 5 Series.
They based their photoshoped image on some latest spy shots of the 5er Touring spotted in Munich, but I am far from being impressed with their work. To me, the rendering shows a concept being based mostly on a BMW 3 Series Wagon and it looks quite boring. I have no doubt that the final concept will be different from their attempt and it will be revolutionary, as many people pointed out before.
What’s really worth mentioning from their article is the engine line-up that BMW will have for the 2010 5 Series.
- BMW 520i - 204 hp
- BMW 525i - 235 hp
- BMW 530i - 282 hp
- BMW 535i - 326 hp
- BMW 550i - 407 hp (V8 Biturbo)
- BMW 520d - 177 hp
- BMW 525d - 204 hp
- BMW 530d - 235 hp
- BMW 535d - 299 hp
Quite an extensive line-up that will satisfy even the most demanding BMW fans.
As far as the latest spy shots, the test mule in the images below is still heavily armored and camouflaged, and once again, nothing much that we’re “allowed” to see.

that rendering is horrible
I do hope the 535D with 299 hp will come to this shore, with XDrive of course, in wagon or avant form as Audi says it.
The rendering looks distinctly “3″. The 5 tends to be a wider, more heavy-shouldered design. The headlamps are also too understated for the 5.
The bhp numbers are interesting, they might be european models (or at least non-NA). For example, the 525i is essentially the 328i’s 2-stage 3.0 engine; the 530 is the direct-injected, 3-stage intake 330i (european); the 3.0 turbo is bumped a bit which is hopefully good news for the 335i.
And… is that a 2.0 four cylinder engine? On a $50k car?!
What is the point of the 525 if there will be a 2 litre 4 cylinder twin turbo coming up?
Yes Clara, that is a 2.0 engine - the new 4 cylinder twin-turbo yet to be launced officially.
