I don't understand why the 335d is on there. The mileage is great for a performance-oriented car but, but as basic fuel economy goes there's nothing special about it. Is this a qualitative ranking?

Honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing the Smart get the nod for the sole reason that it is what it is: a fuel efficient car that doesn't try to be anything else. It's cheap transportation.

I don't mind the thought of a diesel Bimmer at all. I love the torque of diesels. But being that we're talking about a $40k+ car, it's not exactly targetted towards the demographic I would consider needy of a fuel-efficient car. The Smart is dirt cheap; the 335d... not so much. ~$12k vs. $40k+?

The Fusion and Vues are 4000lb+ bags of feces on wheels.
