Finally, amber turn signals on a 4 door BMW. I figured all models would go to red turn signals at this rate. The 3 sedan/wagon, 5 sedan/wagon, X5/X6 all have red turn signals. The only ones left with amber are the 2 door variants and the X3. We’ll see what happens to the last one. They should keep it consistent across the whole BMW range and use amber everywhere.

Completely agree. Each newer version seems a retrenchment from giving the 7 an immediate and recognizable personality. From the side the new model is about as dynamic as a brick. Yeah, maybe I’m overstating the case, but I think BMW has folded it’s cards when it comes to the 7-series.
How conservative can they make it?
Nice observation also about who buys the 7.

I kinda disagree with you here, I dont know if you have driven the E23 7 or even the E32. The deisgn in both cars scream BMW, it’s a car for younger executives or high tech engineers who need a bigger car. It’s elegant, mature, and comfortable yet sporty and thrilling to drive. The E38 lost a bit of that, and the E65 is in the Mercs category that you described above. BMW essence is Sport Sedans across the board, and this is slowly fading.

Design wise, I dont expect BMW to be a Rolls or Bentley but I always expect them to come up with new design ideas with each generation that inspire other makers and designers (if you check Autoblog.com today someone had a rendering concept of a Sedan nissan-GTR that 90% mimics the CS concept, not to mention other cars like the Lambo 4 door concept), the new 7 has no new design ideas and it falls in the same design category of Infinity and lexus, while Mercs, Audi, Jag, and even Masseratti are adobting new different design langages that makes you take a quick look at the car and know what it is, the new 7 lacks that.

I think I missed the part where the 7-series was supposed to be “thrilling”… Last I heard, it was a big luxo-sedan meant to transport fairly conservative executives from Point A to Point B.

It looks… like a 7-series, both in a good way and a bad way. Does it blend in a bit? Sure, but that’s probably half the point of it. If you want an executive sedan that screams for attention, pony up the extra $ for a Bentley, Rolls or Maybach.

looks better than the first re-modeled 7 series that came out a few years ago :) but still, i like the Mercedes S better… at least the look.

honestly, if this car does not carry a BMW badge wouldn’t you mitsake it for some new Infinity or lexus? OK, thats the last one I promis, I’ll keep it shut till I see it in person!
but really couldn’t help commenting on those photos, the car looks so liveless and lacks any design innovation. I bet you if you remove the logo and ask someone who doesn’t know much about cars they would say “hmm,…maybe a new lexus?”
