This is a steel-block engine, isn’t it? I know BMW introduced an aluminum diesel, but don’t think this is it. Curious how much heavier it is.

They do have a bad repuation of being a little… unrefined (I know, it’s probably strange to thing of Americans desiring a vehicle with at least some level of refinement). Black smoke, difficult to start in the winter, dirty, smelly, etc.

On top of that (or possibly because of that), diesel isn’t available at most gas stations around here.

actually I don’t know why americans do not like Diesels. Because modern Diesels, especially the ones from BMW and Merc are so much better than petrol. Its more powerful, more grunt, more fun to drive, quieter at high speeds (cannot even hear it insdie the car when idle), more fuel efficient. Maybe it’s the dirty image that diesels have because of other manufacturers like Ford, GM – but they’ve also improved a lot… at least it’s not too late now. I drive a diesel myselve. so much better. When pulling away, you leave the petrol cars behind…
