I THINK X6 IS A SUPERB DESIGN, AND ABSOLUTELY THE BEST LOOKING 4X4 OUT THERE TODAY. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY SOME DISLIKE THE STYLE SO MUCH; HAVE THEY SEEN IT IN PERSON I WONDER? I CAN TESTIFY THAT IT DRIVES BETTER THAN 90% OF SEDANS OUT THERE.
IN TERMS OF WHAT IT IS "SUPPOSED" TO BE, WHY TRY TO FIT EVERY VEHICLE INTO A DEFINED CLASS? WHY START BUILDING A VEHICLE BY SUPPOSING UP FRONT WHAT "ALREADY EXISTING CLASS" OF VEHICLE YOU WILL BE BUILDING? WHY BE STEREOTYPED? WHY CREATE ARTIFICIAL BOUNDARIES AND CATEGORIES? BMW HAS MADE A BOLD LEAP BY NOT SHYING AWAY FROM POTENTIALLY CONTROVERSIAL STYLING THAT IS DICTATED BY FACTORS GOVERNING POWER, SPORTINESS AND HANDLING, THAT IS SURE TO APPEAL TO MANY, IF AND WHEN THEY SHAKE THEMSELVES CLEAR OFF THE NEGATIVE PUBLICITY DOMINATING THE BLOGOSPHERE ABOUT THIS CAR.
IN TERMS OF GAS MILEAGE, THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER SUVS OUT THERE WITH SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE NUMBERS THAT PEOPLE COMMUTE IN EVERYDAY, WITHOUT EVER NEEDING THE SPACE OR OFFROAD CAPABILITIES THEY PROVIDE. WHY IS NOONE COMPLAINING AS LOUDLY ABOUT THEM AS THEY DO ABOUT X6? WHY DO WE NEVER HEAR THE SAME ARGUMENTS ABOUT CAYENNE WHICH IS NO BETTER - WHY IS PORSCHE AS A BRAND EXCUSED FROM THE PUBLIC HEAT ON GAS MILEAGE THAT X6 IS SUFFERING?
IN TERMS OF PRICING, ... WELL, I CANNOT DEFEND THAT ONE, EXCEPT TO POINT OUT THAT IT MAKES X6 EXCLUSIVE. AND MAY BE THAT'S WHAT IT IS INTENDED TO BE.

There are so many things that impress. The overwhelming feature however, is moving the transmission from normal to sport. The whole character of the car changes. The already great roadholding is enhanced by sharper gear changes and what feels like an even more responsive engine.

Well, Iv'e had mine now for 5 days. I moved to BMW from a Land Rover Discovery3 / LR3. Leaving aside the undeniable leap in build quality and driving experience, my wife and I still wanted a 4X4, and yet we wanted a sportier drive as well. The X6 ticks all the boxes. We have the bi-turbo diesel and it is fantastic. Masses of torque and a great sound as well.
We also have an Audi TT which up until now was a brilliant drive. I now think however, the Audi has become redundant. The X6 is a superb design, and BMW should be congratulated for marketing it.

I personally dont like the X6 at all...I really dont think it serves ANY purpose in the marketplace. Want a SUV(SAV?) get a X5, want a sporty vehicle that sits 4 or more...get a 5er. To me the X6 seems gratuitous and isnt really needed in the lineup. When it came out I was baffled and actually said out loud, "What is it SUPPOSED to be?". Still havent found a good answer....
