I came across this rendering by the german folks at Autobild, and I started to think if this is the way I imagined the BMW X1. The front-end looks pretty much similar to the X3 or the X5, I don’t see an improvement there, as far as the rear, I can’t really determine the shape nor the size, but this is less important now.
Tell me what you think about this computer generated image, do you dig it? Would you buy the X1 if it will come in this shape?

no i am fed up with these crossover / suv’s and all that big junk.
to me a bmw is a 2 or 4 door car, not some weird looking contraption
I’m not fond of this photoshop….trades too heavily on cute. Not even hockey-mom tough. Instead, I would go with masculine design signifiers….something with a little hair on its chest.
Watching many of my neighbors bailing out of their gigundo SUVs and at a loss to decide what is the next appropriate guy-thing…smaller SUVs seem poised to fill the niche.
However, this rendering ain’t going to do it.
I think there’s too much at stake (basically the potential for BMW to make a passle of bucks) for them to mis-read the trend and get it wrong.
this photoshop is a disgusting excuse for a BMW.
Maybe this could be the future Isetta SUV? Lol
It just looks too damn small, even for a X1.
Well sorry to disappoint you gentlemen but I like the looks of it. I like the lower squatter stance and the way it still looks like an SUV instead of a fat car/wagon on wheels (can anyone say X6?). I happen to prefer smaller vehicles so maybe it is aimed at someone like me. Remember many people didnt like the design of the current 5er or 1er and those are selling pretty well at the moment.
It’s just a rendering, according to a BMW source, it’s not the real deal, but it does have a few similar elements. Couldn’t disclose them. And I agree with Marc, it’s not that bad. Now I know some of you have strong feelings when it comes to BMW and their X models, but I think they have no choice but continuing to innovate and adjust their cars to the current market.
Why haven’t you bothered posting the ONLY rendering that is halfway close? I tipped you guys off in an email about it and it’s still not up. Very disappointing, bmwblog.

@Jeff: Jeff, I apologize, but I don’t believe we received it, otherwise it would have been posted.
I will the photos to this post.
We usually have the tips up and running quite fast since we do appreciate the input. We’ll do better next time
@Jeff:
I’m sorry Jeff, but the front end on the image that you linked to is way worse. It’s just another CS face-off photoshop job.
i absolutely love the renderings that jeff posted. it looks like a mini X6. Beautiful!
Thanks Horatiu. Put it up as its own separate post and I’ll be happy.
I really think it deserves its own post. I thought this car was a joke until I analyzed these new renderings. Now, I want one. A more interesting point/question is the speculation I have read about in Car Magazine and elsewhere on the net from Leipzig plant people that this car will be adapting a light version of the dual mode hybrid system from the x6 in the second/third model year, just as the saturn vue will have. Car went so far as to suspect it was a plug in.
The specs for the Saturn have it getting 70+mpg for the first 40 miles. That would be a game changer for BMW and certainly help their CAFE standards. Lets find out. Use your skillz folks. I want.
