Why don't they just add a hatchback "sport-back" configuration for 3 or 5, and introduce PAS stuff as an option package?

I still don't get what this model adds to the lineup or the brand, other than more confusion.

Just a quick tag on to some of Scott's comments about the PAS.Scott works in some marketing role for BMW in Munich. He is very wired about future happenings within BMW.I have taken an interest in the PAS because it sounds like a car I would interested in owning.I though the X6 was for me....but the more I heard about the PAS....the more my ears perked up.Some of my contacts at the SC BMW Plant regularly travel to Munich for meetings, and I get bits and pieces of info on other things going on in BMW outside of the SC BMW Plant. The PAS was originally going to be BMW's people mover,ie gasp....Mini Van.After the MB R-Class bombed...BMW reexamined the whole "People Mover" segment.Decided to "reinvent" the concept of the sedan as a way to cover the people mover market w/o ever having to admit they were in the people mover segment. The PAS will be built on the new 5 Series platform and be a little wider, taller and longer than a standard 5 Series. The look will be somewhat X6ish but longer and more sleek. The real news is inside the car.A bigger interior and only 4 seats w/ the possibility of a 5th "jump seat".The PAS will be available in several different configurations.....from a more standard sport sedan setup to a captains chairs w/ folding tables in the back section.......shall we say like a Chrysler Mini Van.The inside will "feel" larger due to the increased interior volume and less seats...some say as much interior room as the new 7 Series.A very big bet for BMW.They hope by appealing to many cross sections of the motoring public...the PAS won't get tagged w/ being called a minivan. If the PAS works on the 5 Series platform, there could be 3 and 7 Series "PAS's".You must tip your hat to BMW for pushing the boundries and busting out of the box on car designs. Thanks! PalBay

well, point being that I still think this is a somewhat pointless exercise in meeting market demands - hopefully for BMW it will pan out better than the R Class did for Benz.

Sorry - I still don't see much point to this vehicle. If it's going to be a "Y 3.0Si" does the "Y" stand for "Y did we build this thing?"

Ok, now you're talking Horatiu! Maybe now you can understand why I advised not to 'bad mouth' this car before we know more.

About the render, I don't think it will look like a X6 body with a CS front-end. Like the article said "shallow glasshouse".

Great reading:)
