I completely agree. I have a 06 325i but I know in time i'll eventually work my way up to a 7 series. I'm only 20 years old so I'm doing pretty good i'd say.

It was a standard SL500, with standard all red color taillamps (the AMG’s have the center rear turn signals smoked out), standard SL500 dual-exhaust, not the quad-exhaust that comes on the AMG’s, and a standard SL500 body.

BMW puts the M badge on accessories designed by M, for example if a wheel has an ///M badge that means that ///m Division has designed that, same goes for steering wheel ....etc

I fear that BMW themselves is starting to put the M badge on everything. It seems to have become a very profitable division for them, as well it should be.

@Hantra: Oh, okay... Sorry, I thought you meant the post-facelift E46's. I like the E90/92/93 BMW's. I think they are quite nice. I will say that the E46 sedan is, still to me, more of an inviting design than the E90.

I'm glad that it's been a great car for you. All hail the Germans!!!

I'm talking about facelifted E90/92. It's better than non-facelifted, but still no E46. Like Obama said, you can put lipstick on. . .well nevermind. ;-)

Thanks for the confidence inspiring words. My E46 has been the most reliable car I have ever owned, including 3 Japanese, a Swede, and 2 other Germans.

@Hantra: As I said before, if the badge(s) came on the car from the factory, there is a reason for it. I had a 2005 330i Sport with the M wheels. They are designed that way from the factory, so the M badges are meant to be there...

The E46 facelift, meaning 2002 for the sedans and 2003 for the coupes, weren't real E46's to you? How so?

You are worried about an M3 after warranty? No offense, but you've been lucky if your car has had no issues. Or maybe it does, and you just don't know it, yet...

This doesn't bother me. If it's a lone M, then it's just like any other badge one would use to exhibit their extreme fanhood. I have 4 M badges on my E46 330Ci, but they came on the wheels, and I don't feel like a poser. I kinda like looking at them when I'm down there cleaning those babies.

Bottom line is, who cares. My biggest fear is not a guy with an EBay M badge, it's making sure I don't get hit in my E46. B/c I can't replace it. And as much as I like the facelift, an E46 it ain't. Point being, not everyone is "striving" to get to the top of the line car. I'd be terrified of an E46 M3 outside of warranty, but mine's bulletproof.

Funny that you brought up this rant. Today I was getting on the freeway and saw an Alpine White 733i, probably an early 80's car. I get close to him and see the M badge on the left side of the trunk lid and am totally pissed. I pass the car and of course he is really young and I notice in my rear view that there is an M on the front of the car as well. PISSED ME OFF!!! There has never even been an M version of the 7 series, and this kid just puts it on for the hell of it. Stupid!

@Rawautos: Thanks for the clarification. This has been a point of contention for many, many years in enthusiasts circles and will continue to be. Just to reiterate: Posers=M badge with the NUMBER...M badge without number is normally reserved for M-sport Package vehicles OUTSIDE of the good ol' US of A.

About once a day here in Northeast Florida I see a Merc E Class or S Class with an AMG badge slapped to the right side of the trunk. Usually on an E350 or S430. I try to make it a point to point and laugh at these people as I drive by. I may have just an E46 325Ci but at least I can live with and enjoy my car instead of pawning it off as a model twice the price of what I paid.

BMW's aren't immune either, I've seen a few E60 5's with M badges and what not. It happens, pisses me off when I see it but then I remember how hard this person must be compensating in all aspects of life and it doesn't bother me so much.

I wonder if anyone ever puts a "Carrerra" badge on a Boxster? haha

the whole badge thing is crazy,my logic goes like this , if you put an AMG badge on a non M car , or AMG badges on a non AMG , then your loosing anyhow , let me explain.

If you do that to your car , then if a person who knows his stuff about car could easily tell its a fake . And if a person who doesn't know anything about cars then if he see a car M or non M all they know is that its a BMW it doesn't make a difference to them . So they only person your fooling when putting fake badges is your self. ;)

I drive an E46 318 vert facelift and it wears it 318 badge with pride , even my number plate reads 318 ;)

Indeed, in Europe most bimmers are debagded, I'm sure that some people are ashamed for their 118d/318d, but some people just find it more beautiful. I drive a 118d company car and I love it, and I'm not ashamed of it. I also know that my next car when I start on my own will be a 330d ;)

You also have to remember that in Europe the engines start from a 316i! Anything above a 320d is rare in Europe because of the insane taxes and fuel cost. So to see some people driving around in a 316i with an M badge is even more hilarious.

So are you gonna rag on the guy that wants to buy the 335 MSport and has to put it together from the ground up because BMW won't bring it to the US.
Also, in Germany the M135 is what we just call the 135.

I drive an e90 325. As much as i would like to be driving an M, i would never...NEVER badge it as an M. no matter what upgrades I had applied. It honestly makes me want to smash my car into whoever is rockin the false Ms. Above all; AMG, F, S.....M is the most sacred. just dont fake it.
