@Horatiu - Two reasons. One are robots. You can’t get a robot paintjob after the factory. Two is the high temp bake. You can’t do that after you get plastic, leather, glass, etc in the car.

@Sba: Yeah, but for some reason the factory paint is always better. I’ve seen the painting process and it’s quite complex and hard to replicate independently.

Yeah, and a respray kills resale value.. bigtime. But then again, so does driving a brand new car off the lot and that doesn’t stop people from doing it.

@Sba - Uhhhh. . . This is a factory LSB paintjob. Although I recognize the faults, and the horrible orangepeel coming out of BMW now, there is no way you would get a paintjob as nice as factory for anywhere near $5K.
