@Clara: Hard to tell at this point, but I still believe they're testing different cooling methods and based on that, they will decide on the hood design.

I don't know what to make of this. If it were simply that slot-vent, I'd say from the marks around it that someone simply cut a rectangle and bent it down. But what would be the point? That's where the engine intake duct exists now.

The M3-style hood vents almost look like they might be fake, or taped over to experiment with the slot vent. But if they were real, it could mean that they experimented moving the intake to the hood vent where the M3 has it, and used the front duct area for something else...?

@Giom:

They are testing a cooling solution from what I was told which in the end, it might result in the need of a vented bonnet, maybe not as drastic as this one. The coupe and cab fans will need to be pleased somehow, and this might be the answer. You'll be surprised how many unusual things BMW does :)

@Benny:

I agree. These vents will never make it onto any production BMW (sorry Horatiu)

You remember that test M5 with the extra holes cut out of the front bumper? I think this is the same thing. They're trying something -maybe a temp sullution for testing purposes.

BMW is just not this extrovert imo. Sad though:(

I personally don't think that this bonnet will be part of the "normal" M-package. Maybe optional, in addition to the M-package. But I don't believe that BMW will sell this kind of exterieur modification for non-M-cars. Well, we will see ;-)

@Gragop:

Probably not. Our sources say clearly an N54 engine and it's being tested with different cooling solutions. The Performance Package is something else and I dont think it will ever be a tii name on a 3 series. I believed that for a second, but not anymore.
