And you people said that the X6 was a terrible mistake and coveres an un-existing market, but it seems like BMW’s competitors have a different opinion. MotorAuthority reports that Acura is currently testing a crossover prototype that will be placed in the same niche as the BMW X6.
Despite the negative reactions displayed before the X6 launch, the bimmer fans have embraced the new Sports Activity Coupe and regardless of the high price, not many dealerships carry a large inventory.
The Acura prototype sports an extremely low roofline that will give the car a coupe-like profile and the overall shape, strongly suggests that this is their version of a crossover coupe.
The car will be most likely launched in 2010 and the rumor among the industry experts hints to a base price of $50,000. Of course, these are numbers are purely based on speculation and the market value of its competitors.
The spy photos are not great at all and the best we can see is an overall exterior shape. And we thought that BMW was bad with their camouflage technique, the Acura’s one looks like a tent wrapped around the car.

This is what I don’t understand… even after selling out, every X6 review I’m reading still ends with ‘dunno who’s gonna buy this car, but it impressed us to no ends!’ kind of thing.
Hard for these guys to admit defeat… again. lol
PS. I’m already picking up the same vibe towards the PAS. When will these guys learn….
I don’t understand why this article is here in the first place?
@George:
Why? Just to show that the X6 is more popular than people thought and that the competitors realized that.
Popularity comes with the sale numbers.We will have to wait and see. But I think BMW is competing with Porsche at this SAV level and not with Honda/Acura…
The advantage of the X6 is that it’s an SUV that handles/performs like a sports car. There is a market for this among people who might buy an SUV except for the fact that they don’t want the handling sacrifice.
Question – how is the acura the equivalent of the X6? It’s just a new SUV so far as i can tell.
I think the X6 and all SUV’s from BMW are lame at this point…
I am so tired of SUV’s, i want to puke every time i see one on the road.
