Here is a rendering by the guys at Autoexpress of the new 2009 BMW Z4. Sources close to BMW told us that the rendering is not 100% accurate but they're not too far away from the "truth".
In my opinion, if the new Z4 will turn out to be similar to the below rendering, then….I'm ALL FOR IT.
Let me ask you two questions:
1. What do you think of it?
2. Is BMW going into the right direction with their latest released and future models?

1I like it and I think BMW is going the right direction. I am still waiting for the new mild-hybrid engines.

2Looks good. I love my friend’s M Coupe(Z4) and honestly it’s one of the few BMW designs out right now that moves me. Hopefully, this will be the successor.

3The first Bangle era designs were a shock to the system, none more dramatic than the Z4. It took me some time to get used to these changes, and still wasn’t convinced by the duck-tailed Z4. I took a liking to the 7er (though the taillights weren’t completely resolved, IMO), was quite impressed with the new 5er when seen in person, but still not quite a fan of the Z4.
The more I saw, however, the more I liked. It was much more of a three dimensional design, it was like sculpture. Every time I saw one I found a new twist, nuance, or connection of one line to the next. I started to see the whole picture and I finally caved and got one. Looking at it every day I’d see something new. It was low, lean, mean, and a lot of fun to drive. I had a couple quibbles; like the turn signals, taillights, and road noise. But all in all I liked the design.
The renderings of the new Z4 show BMW design to have moved from shock to awe. They have taken the original concept and have refined the lines, giving it more of an athletic look. Per all the second generation Bangle era designs, the sheet metal is pulled tight over a muscular frame.
I like it. Few manufacturers have been able to replicate these forms thus keeping BMW distinct from the wannabes.

6Did anyone look through the photo-shopped windshield and see the supposed rear seat headrest from an e92 M3 Coupe? Nice rendering, but need to work on the cross-referenced details.

10@Gunnar: They used the interior of a 3 series coupe for this, hence the 4 seats. I think the rendering is based on an existing model.

11this looks like the current z4 model. Renderings of autoexpress or autobild or whatever are just bad. Those aren’t like BMW’s design plans.
I quess the new z4 will be new and unexpected but GREAT
