@john mel: From what I heard, they are looking to combine some successful older design elements with other innovative ones, but they won't be going the "space ship" design route. I think they did an ok job on the facelift versions and it gives more value to the sedan in compare to the coupe, which leads in their sales.

This is becoming a BMW design trend – new models with bland details followed by sharper detailing come the facelift. Witness E46 update of coupe and sedan. Now it’s the E90’s turn. It appears to be the same old design detail tricks too, namely to throw some LEDs in the taillights.

Check out the reverse light on the new E90 facelift, it’s the same small blacked out slitty rectangle that graced the updated E46 coupe in 2004.

Please BMW design, lets include these neat features from day one moving forward.

Looks good. I always thought the tail lights on the E90 were pretty bland. The rear looks much better. I like it.
