2010 BMW M5: Good Photoshop or Not?

The guys at MotorAuthority made an attempt at predicting how the next-generation BMW M5 might turn out, design-wise of course. I won't get into the rumors regarding the technical specs of the 2010 BMW M5, but you can always click over to MotorAuthority and catch up on them.

What I would like to do today is to find out your opinion on these computer generated images. Do these images represent the ideal M5 in your eyes?

I'll start first: love the front-end, very promising, aggressive and in the same time classy looking, but when it comes to the rear-end, the first thing that comes in my mind is the 3 Series coupe.

I agree, the front is very aggressive, employing a lower intake/spoiler much like that of the new M3. The rear is in no way M material….where are the quad exhausts first off. I like the tail lamps, they look like they were lifted from the CS concept. Someone obviously put a lot of time into these.

It’s always hard to juge these images wich is obviously sourced from existing hardware. In this case the whole front bumper is sourced from the M3, tail lights from the CS and X6, kidneys probably oversized 1-series (could be wrong).
Now, we know BMW never source anything from current models, so to my mind this image isn’t even a close representaion of whats to come.
Still, it’s always interesting to look at.

I hate the whole idea of BMW going to “power-dome” hoods. We see it on the new M3. It doesn’t look any different here on this illustration. The M series cars don’t need any extra glitz speaking to their performance. Makes me think of old school Pontiacs.

Actually, those power domes follows function. It accomodates the bigger air box wich improves breathing. Don’t worry, BMW is still about engineering.

Hey every1,i really love the M Powered cars,n i truely loved the natural power harvested from the engines,without the Turbo Chargers,Intercoolers,Supercharger(i hate the Turbo Laggggg)n what made BMw so nice was there engines without relyin on intakers.for examplpe th 3.2L V6 343bhp7900rpm(E46) n the 3.2L with 320bhp(on the E36)n the 5.0Lon the M6 wich will be sadely dropped n use a 5.5Lturbo.(with 550bhp)roughly.

Man i hope they dont stop using the Vanous Technology,cause it is perfect.Merc n Audi just have to dream about it.tc

These look pretty good, and the best part is the tail lights that look nothing like the current m5 which is horrible

@Tony: First off Im pretty sure there was nver a V6 in any BMW, they use only inline sixes, and for another thing the new 3.0 liter biturbo inline 6 has virtually no lag whasoever due to the fact that the turbos are different sizes, a smaller one for lower rpm torque and a slightly larger one for higher rpm torque.

I personally have no issue with these images, as after all, they are only speculation….let us all wait and what will soon appear on the streets of Munich and elsewhere…I bet that we will soon see early test models out and about….

Personally, I do not want the next M5 to be too aggressive looking…one reason I have always loved the M5 cars is that they look a lost less like the beast that lurks under the hood!!!!…All the more to lure the unsuspecting Saki burner into a hopeless battle!!!! MUHAHAHAHAHA

Yeah, the first thing that comes to mind is the 3 series, and that’s the problem with this car. I don’t like it. I don’t like the current iteration of the 3 series, and the back of the 3 series looks so mundane that it looks like a Japanese Econobox.

I know people pay for performance and not looks for this car. But, if you rarely have more than 1 passenger, I’d go for a Nissan GTR. At least that way you’ll get the performance you want for the money.

I like the new look.
It’s subtle enough and yet classy with muscle.
Yes it has a similar look (not identicle) to the 3 series but it is its older brother.
BMW need to upgrade the interior of the 5 series or completely change it for 2010.
It feels and looks cheap. - That’s coming from a 5 series driver!
The i drive is complicated when driving at 120kph.

This is deff photoshop! The front lip is from the new M3 and so is the power dome hood with the side slits, also the mirrors are from the 5 series rendering but the inner part connecting the mirrors to the car are from the new M3 and so is the side slits behind the front fenders! This is just a 5 series rendering with a couple of M3 bitts bolted on, the rear end was not photoshop! The mirror attachment isn’t from the M3 and the Side slits are suddenly gone??? And the badging is 530i, there is no way that this is an M!!!

Front end looks like a Pontiac Grand Prix, pretty ugly imo. I like the headlights on the current modle better. Back end looks bland and boring as well, rather the brake lights from the current model also and no quad exhuast? The “powerdome” is a disaster, I don’t think BMW would ever do that even if it was performance oriented, you only ever see that on cheap rice burning body kited street racers and nasty Pontiacs and Dodges.

If the engine needs more room then build up the whole hood to accomidate.

Anyway, significantly worse looking then the current M5 so I doubt we’d ever see anything close to this in 2010. Luckily it’s only a computer simulation.
