A BMW 1 Series Hatchback(123d) has been spotted on the roads in Michigan. Back in September 2007, the first BMW diesel car in the US, a 535d, was spotted also somewhere near Detroit. The car belonged to the fuel system supplier Bosch and the BMW 123d spotted yesterday is part of their fleet as well.
Just a few weeks ago, Jake from the BMWBlog team, posted a poll in which he has asked our readers their opinion on the BMW 1 Series hatchback. To my surprise, many of our readers were positive and open towards the possibility of owning a 1 series hatch here in the States.
The BMW 123d was launched in Europe last year and it is powered by a twin-turbo 2.0L four-cylinder diesel outputting 204hp and 295lb-ft of torque, while keeping an impressive high MPG: 45mpg (US) on the EU combined test cycle.
Still no news on whether BMW will bring the hatchback to the States, but with an increase demand for it, BMW's plans might change.

1Back looks just like an A3/Golf. What happened to BMW’s signature L-shaped taillights?

3I just saw a 1 series hatchback here in Austin, Texas. I couldn’t read the badge entirely so I don’t know if it was a diesel or not. I saw it in traffic right in front of the ad agency that does BMW USA advertising so this leads me to believe that the car is coming to the states. They wouldn’t have one unless they we preparing a marketing campaign for it.
