   One of the few advantages of living in Europe…I traded my 3-series for a 5 doors 1-series last year and I haven’t regretted it for one second, what a car!

   I live in Aust. Own- 04 mod 325ti (M-Susp, et al). The 5 door 1-Series is a flawed design. Try accessing the rear seat, and the trunk is small. However, I’m looking for a diesel and it is the BEST handling car in it’s segment by a long shot – 2nd is the VW Golf GT Sport diesel. Both are rockets when pushed. Almost as good as the 325ti!!

   Here in Egypt , The 1 Series Hatchback is the only option available to you .

   @ Horatiu B.: Well first of all, I just like smaller cars more, they feel more agile. Second, my 3 series was really sensitive to eeuhm, how do I say it, tracks made in the road by trucks, I really had to fight my car to stay on the same line. Some say this is because of the runflat tires but my 1 series also has those and has no problem with truck tracks. The 3 series steered heavier, and the pedals also required more force, the 1 series just feels more cohesive to me, everything is more fluid and precise. The only downside is that on the highway the 3 series was a bit more quite.

   Interesting to see that many people will take either one of them. Even though I am not a big fan of the hatchback design, I will probably buy one if it makes financial sense

   I would love to have a bmw 1 series hatchback in the US. i drive a mazda hatchback, and i think hatchbacks are extremely useful. a bmw hatchback be a dream come true.

   @len: Driving a 1 series hatchback myself, I can tell you it’s not really useful at all! The trunk is one of the smallest I have ever seen, I can barely fit my grocery shopping into it. I used to drive a VW Golf V, and there I could put my mountain bike into it without any problem (laying flat the rear seats of course). Luckily I don’t care if a car is useful or not

    There are way too many 3 series cars in Calgary (where I live). Having the diesel 1 series hatchback would be a great commuter car for me and would provide additional choices for those in town here.

    I live in Los Angeles. I drive around 35 miles each way to my business. I own an 04 Acura TSX which I really like but it has become too big for my needs. I am not a lover of big cars but in 2004 the TSX was the best option in HP, features, mileage per gallon and looks. I would love to own a BMW but the current line doesn’t appeal to me. I was hoping the 1 would do it but still too costly. The new 09 TSX has lots of features but like I’ve said it is too big for what I need. On the other hand, a BMW 3-door hatchback would be AWESOME!!!! I have 9 more payments on my TSX and I am currently looking at my girl’s GTI Turbo as an option for myself. If BMW had the hatchback in the US by 2009 I would be first in line for it. I’ll keep praying….

    I am so keen to purchase a 1-series hatchback I even configured one on the BMW UK web site. I currently own a 325i that I am very happy with but having driven a 1-series hatchback around Europe recently would love to get my hands on one of these. Not to mention the dramatically improved gas mileage!

    i love the look of the hatchback but i would only get one if it had the 135i engine in it… see im a younger guy and i want something to play with… im currently looking at both the 135i and the mitsu lancer evo x mr… around the same price and as of right now im leaning toward the 135i…
