It was just a matter of time until other car makers will adopt a strategy similar to BMW's. As you know by now, for two years in a row, BMW has won the award for the "Engine of the year", with their 3.0 liter twin-turbo petrol engine.
A couple of years ago, BMW decided that it would great if they could build smaller engines to reduce weight but in the same time to get the same performance as the bigger engines. The award winning 3.0 liter engine has been used in many existing models as well as the new ones.
The latest news report that Audi is going the smaller engine route as well. The next generation S4 and the facelifted A6 will get a new engine, turbo 3.0 liter, direct-injection unit produces 286bhp at 4850rpm, and 310lb ft torque at 2500rpm.
According to the fellows at Autocar UK The new engine uses an Eaton supercharger and has an air-to-air intercooler rather than a water-to-air unit.

Look man, I love BMW, but this bias is way un-objective. Audi never abandoned turbos while BMW, oh, like 2 years ago considered forced induction cheap and beneath them. Ditto for Porsche. It is BMW that’s adopting their strategy.
