We knew that it won't take long until the other luxury automakers will launch a cars that will compete with BMW's 1-Series. The latest news are that Infiniti is working on such a car that according to them will be totally different from anything in its segment.
Apparently, Infiniti is looking at a small, high-end crossover or a coupe/cabriolet as body styles and they hope to have it available sometimes in 2010.
Should BMW worry about this? Hard to tell at this point, they definitely hold the advantage since the 1 Series will be a mature car by the time the Infiniti model will come out. I recall that about a year ago, one the 1 Series was still in the final design stage and many spy photos and information came out, we stated that BMW will set a trend with their 1 coupes and it won't be long until everyone else will try to catch up with them.
The 1 Series Launch was obviously a success for BMW and according to their executives, the expectations have been met and they are looking forward to exceed them by the end of this year.
