I know this as i have just returned from my local BMW Garage having ordered the new facelitft model. The iDrive update is for 1,3 and 7 series. The 5 series will get the new iDrive, along with the new 7. We only stated that BMW has a record of keeping the "goodies" for new cars. There are some mules being driven around that have the new iDrive/interface, including a 3 series mule, but it will not be in the facelifted version.
