Autoblog has a pretty cool story on the BMW Hydrogen 7. I remember when we started our BMW related blog, that one of our first stories were on the BMW Hydrogen 7, with California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger taking a picture next to it.
Things have changed a lot since then. The green initiative became even more popular and most of the automakers decided to go into that direction as well. In BMW's case, the original Hydrogen 7 were powered by a V12, running on both hydrogen and gasoline. The fuel tank has a capacity of 19.5 US gallons that helped the Hydrogen 7 run for about 310 miles. The other tank was filled with 30 US gallon liquid hydrogen(at a temperature of -253 Celsius). The hydrogen was only good for a distance of around 125 miles.
The current Hydrogen 7 version loses the gasoline tank and it will run only on hydrogen. Of course, typical for BMW
, no extra details have been released so far, but we do know that in April, they will show the car at the the 2008 SAE World Congress and the National Hydrogen Association Conference.
One little problem here in the U.S: we are not yet ready to have many Hydrogen cars, since we are missing the infrastructure. There are way too many gas stations that are not equipped with hydrogen tanks.

A great idea….well, at least until we find a better (and LARGER) source for hydrogen than fossil fuels.
Cheers,
Do you work for another car company other than BMW or something (’…until we…’)
