Saab is the latest automobile manufacturer that decided to go after the very successful BMW 1-series line. The 1-series was launched in 2004 for the European market in a hatchback format and recently the coupe version was launched in Europe, with U.S market being next in 2008.
The Scandinavian automaker has seen an opportunity in this market so they have decided to launch a 9-1 model. The entry-level model will be based on GM’s new Astra Delta platform and is expected to go on sale at the end of 2009.
The people at Autocar believe that the 9-1 will be inspired by the Saab 9X and 9-3x concepts could be a strong inspiration for the 9-1.

No info has been leaked in regards to the engine specifications, all we know is that the 9-1 will have a “dramatically styled” and an “iconic” shape.
Time will tell if Saab is making the right move or not.
